Miss Gayle stood up straight. She looked at me, with her brown eyes full of warmth and said, "You have the opportunity to follow your dreams. Do you know how rare of a gift it is to have a career in which you love to do?"

She lowered her voice a bit and continued, "You don't want to do what we do for a living. Trust me."

I felt bad for complaining, but she looked at me with sincerity and winked.

"Come on, you need some more potatoes on your plate. I seasoned them myself." She placed another scoop of potatoes on my tray. "Lord knows you should put some more weight on those bones."

We laughed.

I ate my meal with my friend Abram, a sophomore actor. When I got to class I had a smile on my face. There are times when I doubt myself. I wonder if I will succeed as an actress. I question if I am chasing a dream that will never be. Nonetheless, I realize I am lucky to be where I am. I am in college learning more about my craft. I am moving with baby steps towards my goal.
