"Well, I'm going to get some more toast," Marcia said and headed off. Miss Gayle waved then turned back to me.

"So what those acting coaches got you doing now?" she asked genuinely.

"This week it's monologues."

"Sounds like fun," she said as she place a scoop of scrambled eggs onto my plate.

"They're still pushing fundamentals. They want us to memorize pages and pages of script. If we make one error—I'm talking about leaving out an ‘a' perhaps—they make us start from the beginning. It's tiring sometimes," I told her.

"Listen here, anything that worth doing is hard. If our goals were easy then everyone would reach them. To accomplish what we want out of life takes dedication and sacrifice," she said with conviction.

I looked away. "I know, but... sometimes I think it's too hard."
